A Study of Active Queue Management for Congestion Control

چکیده
In this work, we investigate mechanisms for Internet congestion control in general, and Random Early Detection (RED) in particular. We first study the current proposals for RED implementation and identify several structural problems such as producing large traffic oscillations and introducing unnecessary overhead in the fast path forwarding. We model RED as a feedback control system and we discover fundamental laws governing the traffic dynamics in TCP/IP networks. Based on this understanding, we derive a set of recommendations for the architecture and implementation of congestion control modules in routers, such as RED.

Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...
متن کاملAn Improvement over Random Early Detection Algorithm: A Self-Tuning Approach
Random Early Detection (RED) is one of the most commonly used Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms that is recommended by IETF for deployment in the network. Although RED provides low average queuing delay and high throughput at the same time, but effectiveness of RED is highly sensitive to the RED parameters setting. As network condition varies largely, setting RED's parameters with fixed ...

متن کاملSimulation Analysis of Active Queue Management for Internet Congestion Control
In order to prevent congestion, the current internet uses endto-end congestion control protocol like TCP. In congestion control issues, queue management employed by router has been utmost important. Active queue management (AQM) has been proposed as a router-based mechanism for early detection of congestion inside the network. AQM scheme helps for end-to-end congestion control by having routers...
